Have you heard of a 1st birthday donut smash session? Is that a thing? Or wait, it’s possible I just made that up. One of the very first sessions that I ever captured in my studio was this thing called a cake smash photo session, which is still popular 14 years later. However lately, if you are a Pinner on Pinterest, you may have seen donut’s are now being incorporated, and honestly, less messy too! Kind of. LOL.
For this February birthday baby, an outdoor session in northern Minnesota was just not fathomable but my warm toasty studio was perfect! In fact, now that I think of it, no matter what season, cake or donut smash sessions seem to be popular in the studio. It might be because I have a bathroom sink and water close by, as it can get messy. However, wait a minute, I’m dying to do one of these outdoors. I think I’d have a bear or two that would like to clean up the mess. 😉
Perfect Neutral Backdrop
This little guy, Mr. H, just celebrated his 1st birthday with yes, a donut smash session. I have been photographing this family and their sweet babies for years. His mother absolutely LOVES this neutral backdrop, which is called bone. It’s light, creamy, dreamy and looks great in just about any style of home that you might have. Granted, I have about 15 different solid colors to choose from, but this particular color is just about perfect.
Here are just a few of Mr. H’s 1st birthday images. As you will notice in one of them, he received a special handmade rocking horse made by his Grandfather. How adorable is that! I highly encourage any of my clients to bring any personal items to any photo session as it will mean that much more in the years to come when you look back at your images.
If you have a little one year old birthday happening in your house, give me a shout. A quick 30 minute session is perfect for this event!
